Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a compact island nation in the Indian Ocean that packs an extraordinary range of experiences into a single journey — ancient temple cities, misty tea-carpeted highlands, and miles of palm-fringed coastline all within a few hours of each other. The island's layered history, shaped by Sinhalese kingdoms, colonial Portuguese, Dutch, and British influences, gives every corner a distinct cultural character. Whether you're tracking leopards in Yala National Park or sipping fresh-plucked Ceylon tea in Ella, Sri Lanka rewards curiosity at every turn.

  • Ancient rock fortress Sigiriya
  • Ceylon tea country
  • Leopards & elephants
  • Pristine surf beaches
  • Buddhist temple culture
  • Spiced rice & curry
Best time to visit
The dry season on the west and south coasts runs from December through March, making it ideal for beach and Cultural Triangle visits, while the east coast (Trincomalee, Arugam Bay) shines from May through September when its own dry season takes hold.
Ideal trip length
10–14 days — enough time to move through the Cultural Triangle in the north-central region, wind through the Hill Country, and still settle into a coastal stretch without feeling rushed.

Good to know
Sri Lanka's compact size makes a self-driven or private-driver circuit surprisingly easy — a loop from Colombo through Sigiriya, Kandy, Ella, and down to the southern coast flows naturally and covers the island's greatest hits. When visiting temples and dagobas, carry a light scarf and be prepared to remove shoes, as respectful dress is observed at virtually all sacred sites.
