Micronesia

The Federated States of Micronesia — spanning more than 600 islands across the western Pacific — is one of the world's great undiscovered dive and island destinations. From the volcanic peaks of Pohnpei to the remote atolls of the Outer Islands, it rewards travelers who crave raw natural beauty and genuine cultural immersion far from the tourist trail. Ancient stone cities, technicolor coral reefs, and warm Micronesian hospitality define the experience at every turn.

  • World-class wreck diving
  • Nan Madol ancient ruins
  • Pristine coral reefs
  • Remote island culture
  • Lagoon kayaking
  • Tropical rainforest hikes
Best time to visit
December through April offers the driest, calmest weather across most of the islands, making it the most reliable window for diving, snorkeling, and exploring on foot.
Ideal trip length
10–14 days, because the islands are spread across a vast stretch of ocean and inter-island flights are infrequent, making a longer stay essential to experience more than one state.

Good to know
English is an official language throughout the FSM, making communication easy for U.S. travelers — and as a freely associated state with the U.S., Americans face no passport or visa hurdles upon arrival. Don't overlook Chuuk (Truk) Lagoon, widely regarded as the world's greatest wreck diving destination, with dozens of Japanese WWII ships resting on the seafloor in crystal-clear water.
