Lithuania

Lithuania, the largest of the three Baltic states, blends a remarkably intact medieval Old Town in Vilnius with sweeping amber coastlines, dense primeval forests, and a quietly proud culture that has preserved its language and traditions through centuries of shifting empires. It offers a deeply authentic European experience — grand Baroque churches, hilltop castle ruins, and farm-to-table cuisine rooted in rye, mushrooms, and dairy — without the crowds that shadow better-known neighbors. Travelers who seek history with soul and landscapes with room to breathe find Lithuania quietly unforgettable.

Ideal trip length
7–10 days, enough time to explore Vilnius in depth, day-trip to Trakai and the Hill of Crosses, and wind down along the Baltic coast at the Curonian Spit.

Good to know
Lithuanian is one of the oldest living Indo-European languages and locals appreciate even a simple "ačiū" (thank you); renting a car unlocks the country's most rewarding corners — the Aukštaitija National Park lake district and the Žemaitija highlands — which are difficult to reach by public transit alone.
