Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire) is West Africa's most dynamic and culturally layered destination, where modern Abidjan's skyline meets the rhythms of ancient kingdoms and the lush green of equatorial rainforests. From the sacred forests of the Bété people to the surf-battered Atlantic coastline, the country rewards travelers with extraordinary diversity packed into a single itinerary. It is also the world's leading cocoa producer, and that agricultural heartland tells a story as rich as the chocolate it yields.

  • Abidjan's cosmopolitan energy
  • Tai National Park rainforest
  • Cocoa & coffee culture
  • Grand-Bassam colonial architecture
  • Vibrant mask traditions
  • Atlantic beach coastline
Best time to visit
The dry seasons — November through March in the south and December through February in the north — offer the most comfortable travel conditions with lower humidity and minimal rainfall.
Ideal trip length
10–14 days, long enough to move between the urban energy of Abidjan, the historic coastal town of Grand-Bassam, the rainforests of the southwest, and the savanna landscapes of the north.
Pairs well with
GhanaSenegalBurkina Faso
Good to know
French is the official language, and even basic French phrases go a long way in building rapport outside Abidjan; the Dioula language is widely spoken in the north and markets. Don't overlook the Man region in the west — its mountainous scenery, cascading waterfalls, and living mask ceremonies represent a side of Ivory Coast few international travelers ever discover.
