Indonesia

Indonesia is a vast archipelago of more than 17,000 islands stretching across the equator, offering an extraordinary tapestry of ancient temples, smoldering volcanoes, and some of the world's most biodiverse coral reefs. Each island — from the spiritual heart of Bali to the untamed rainforests of Borneo — feels like a destination unto itself. The country's mosaic of over 300 ethnic groups means every region brings its own distinct cuisine, language, and living traditions.

  • Bali's rice terraces & temples
  • Komodo dragon encounters
  • World-class diving & reefs
  • Borobudur Buddhist temple
  • Vibrant street food culture
  • Active volcanic landscapes
Best time to visit
The dry season from May through September brings the most reliable sunshine and calmer seas across most of the archipelago, making it the ideal window for both beach travel and trekking.
Ideal trip length
14–21 days, because island-hopping between even two or three regions — say Bali, Lombok, and Java — rewards the extra time with dramatically different landscapes and cultures.

Good to know
Bahasa Indonesia is the unifying national language, but English is widely spoken in major tourist areas, so getting around is approachable for first-time visitors; don't overlook the island of Java, home to the ancient temples of Borobudur and Prambanan as well as the living cultural capital of Yogyakarta.
