Cabo Verde

Cabo Verde is an archipelago of ten volcanic islands scattered in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of Africa, each with its own distinct personality — from the lush, green valleys of Santo Antão to the golden dunes of Boa Vista. The islands blend African, Portuguese, and Brazilian influences into a culture that is warm, musical, and deeply welcoming. Whether you seek dramatic hiking terrain, world-class windsurfing, or simply unhurried beach days with a glass of grogue in hand, Cabo Verde delivers a uniquely layered escape.

Best time to visit
November through June offers the most comfortable conditions, with dry, sunny weather and steady trade winds that keep temperatures pleasantly warm without the intensity of the late-summer heat.
Ideal trip length
10–14 days, because the islands are spread across two distinct groups — the Barlavento (windward) and Sotavento (leeward) — and island-hopping between even two or three of them rewards travelers with genuinely different landscapes and moods.

Good to know
Portuguese and Cabo Verdean Creole (Kriolu) are the official languages, though English is spoken in most tourist areas; learning a few words of Kriolu goes a long way with locals. Inter-island travel relies on short domestic flights and ferries, so build flexibility into your itinerary — and don't skip the rugged interior of São Nicolau or the caldera hikes on Fogo, which tend to draw far fewer visitors than the beach islands.
