Armenia

Armenia is one of the world's oldest civilizations, a landlocked South Caucasus nation where ancient monasteries cling to canyon walls, volcanic peaks dominate the skyline, and a proud, deeply hospitable culture welcomes every visitor like family. As the first country to adopt Christianity as a state religion, it carries a spiritual weight felt in every carved khachkar (cross-stone) and hilltop church. Compact yet surprisingly diverse, Armenia rewards curious travelers with dramatic landscapes, a vibrant capital, and a culinary tradition rooted in centuries of Silk Road influence.

Good to know
Armenian is the official language, but Russian is widely spoken as a second language and English is increasingly common in Yerevan — learning a few Armenian phrases goes a long way with locals. Don't overlook the Debed Canyon in the north, home to the UNESCO-listed monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin, which are often skipped in favor of more visited southern sites.
